Income Protection with Disability Plans

Most of us depend on our income to meet financial obligations and care for our families. That’s why Smart Options offers disability coverage as “insurance for your income” if you become disabled and can no longer work.

Provides continuing income for temporary inability to work due to non-work-related injury or illness (including pregnancy).

Benefits

After a waiting period of seven calendar days (which can be covered by available sick days, accrued vacation days, or unpaid leave), STD provides:

  • Up to 8 weeks of 100% salary continuation (after one year of service)
  • Then 66⅔% of base pay for up to 18 additional weeks
  • Maximum benefit period: 26 weeks

Provides income replacement for serious, long-term disabilities lasting more than 6 months.

Basic LTD

  • Coverage: 60% of base pay
  • Maximum: $17,500 per month
  • Cost: Company-paid

Supplemental LTD

  • Additional Coverage: 10% of base pay
  • Combined Maximum: $20,000 per month
  • Cost: Employee-paid (pre-tax)
  • Requirements: Evidence of insurability required
